Close Up: Tools and Techniques describes many tools to get closer to the subject, and also describes techniques for keeping the camera steady, keeping the subject steady, controlling the light, and artistic techniques.  These notes accompany a presentation I made at the 2006 NECCC annual photography conference, and continue to make at local camera clubs.

Alaska  provides information on preparing a trip to Alaska including where and when to go, what to expect when you get there.  These notes accompanied a presentation I made at the 2003 NECCC annual photography conference.

In the Right Place at the Right Time describes a free software tool that I use in preparation for a photographic trip.  It calcluates the sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset for any geographic location.

Focus Stacking with Photoshop  A technique to align and merge several images each with a separate plane of focus to increase depth of field in an image

Topaz Labs DeNoise is a plug-in I use regularly to reduce noise in an image.  I reviewed DeNoise 3  when I started using it then updated the review when I started using DeNoise 5 .

NIK_Viveza 2 was a pleasant surprise.  I was asked to try the plug-in and I wrote this review.  It provides a solution to difficult color problems without affecting other parts of the image.

Seeing is Believing

While mostly true, occasionally the eye can be fooled. This appears to be an earthworm on some leaf litter. It is. But the worm is four feet long and 1-2 inches in diameter. Photographed in Sumaco, Ecuador.
